Personalization
Why we ask for a surname and birth details
In the traditional method, the scroll carries the recipient's name and dedication, written by hand at the time of drawing. We use these details only to prepare your piece — never for marketing, never shared with third parties.
You may provide what is needed. Please check the details carefully before submitting, as a piece cannot be changed once it has been drawn.
You may provide either:
- Surname + Bazi (Eight Characters)
- Surname + Gregorian date of birth + birth time
If you do not know your Bazi, you may provide your Gregorian birth date and birth time, and we will convert the information needed for the making process.
Please check all personalization details carefully before submitting your order.

Care, timing & tradition
Notes from the studio on living with a hand-drawn fu scroll. These describe traditional Taoist custom and are shared for cultural interest.
01 · What is a fu? A note on the tradition
In Taoist tradition, a fu (符) is a written talisman — sacred intent set down in ink. A scroll-format fu has historically been the form kept in homes, temples and studies, hung on the wall rather than carried.
One well-known story from the Ming era tells of Celestial Master Zhang Zhengchang, who is said to have brushed a large fu, burned it, and cast the ashes into a well during an epidemic; villagers drew the water, and the episode was later commemorated by the Hongwu Emperor with a pavilion named Taiyi Spring (太乙泉). We share it as a piece of folk history and heritage — not as evidence of any medical or supernatural effect.
Every piece from this studio is a work of traditional Taoist art: hand-drawn on paper, dedicated to one named recipient.
02 · Displaying & caring for your scroll General guidelines
- Hang it in a clean, dry place. Avoid direct sunlight, damp walls and areas with heavy smoke or steam.
- Handle with clean hands. Touch the mounting rather than the inked surface whenever possible.
- Keep it personal. Traditionally a fu is dedicated to one person; a scroll is hung within the recipient's home rather than passed around.
- Observe the one-year cycle. Custom sets a one-year span for a fu; many people commission a fresh piece each year as the paper ages and the dedication is renewed.
- When its time is done, retire it respectfully. See section 04 below — never simply throw it away.
These are customary guidelines from the tradition, not product-performance claims.
03 · On timing what people traditionally say
There is no fixed timeline, and we make no promise about outcomes or timing.
In traditional practice people describe it differently: some speak of noticing a shift within days or weeks, others of months or longer. Teachers often say it varies with the person and their circumstances. None of this is a guarantee — it is simply how the tradition talks about it.
What we can tell you with certainty is about the object, not the outcome: your piece is drawn by hand for one named recipient, delivered in typically 20–30 business days from order, and shipped with tracking.
Many owners like to pair a fu with a quiet moment of intention before sleep, or with charitable acts and personal reflection. That is a cultural practice people choose for themselves, not a condition of any result.
Nothing here is a claim of medical, financial, protective or life outcome. A fu is a work of traditional Taoist art and cultural heritage.
04 · Retiring an old fu respectfully
When you commission a new piece, tradition suggests respectfully retiring the old one rather than discarding it.
- Burn it in a clean place — a crossroads is often mentioned — or, if you can, return it to a temple and burn it in the incense burner.
- Some people quietly state their name, birth date and a word of thanks as they do so. This is a private moment: please do not write down or send us your address for it.
- If a piece is torn, soiled, or the ink has blurred, the same respectful retirement applies.
This is a customary practice, not a requirement, and it has no bearing on your order or any outcome.
These notes describe traditional Taoist customs and historical beliefs, shared for cultural interest. They are not claims of medical, financial, protective or life outcomes. Each fu is a hand-drawn work of traditional art made for one named recipient. No specific result is guaranteed.
